Lake Elsinore Homes for Sale

Lake Elsinore is a city cozied up to the shores of Lake Elsinore, a nearly 3,000-acre freshwater lake. Currently, Lake Elsinore, formerly known as Laguna Grande, has a population of 66,183, however, the town is still known and used as a resort town for vacationers as well as residential and commercial use. Located in Riverside County, California Lake Elsinore was inhabited by the Luiseno people as some of its earliest residents. Native American relics can still be found in the surrounding canyons and rocks that date back to the early 17 and 1800s. Before becoming a resort town, Lake Elsinore was used to water cattle and provide an overnight camp in what soon became known as the Southern Emigrant Trail during the California Gold Rush. Eventually, the land was sold to Augustin Machado who built a 7 room ranch on the lake’s southwest shore. This ranch was a common stop for the Butterfield Overland Mail Route and eventually became a post office, starting the town's expansion.
